LAHORE
The Pakistan Peoples’ Party cannot be eliminated from the political scene of the country as its critics were predicting recklessly before the recently held Local Government elections in the Punjab and Sindh, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP, in a statement issued on Monday.
The elections results clearly indicated the trend that the party was firmly on the trajectory of staging a comeback in Punjab not withstanding the fact that a large number of party workers supported the independent candidates at the local levels as per permission given by the party leadership to make seat adjustments keeping in view the dynamics of local politics. He asserted that the large numbers of independent candidates had been declared successful in the Punjab due to the degree of support of the PPP because other major parties did not figure out such arrangements of seat adjustments to their office-bearers and workers at local levels. He maintained that the PPP would continue to remain the only viable option for the liberal and progressive segments of Pakistani society that were in overwhelming majority in the country and wanted to carry on the nation building process on the basis of those ideals. He pointed out that the political opponents were even forecasting dooms day scenario for the party in Sindh after the elections, but the elections had confirmed that the popularity of the party had surged in the province not to speak of its decline. The stronghold of the PPP has been further fortified in its favour, he added. Wattoo congratulated the candidates who contested the elections on the party symbol and had been declared successful in the Punjab.
