Vendors overcharge as vegetables supply remains thin

Majority of vegetables were missing in the weekly makeshift markets this week after the Ashura-e-Muharram holidays as thin supply of it recorded in the Badami Bagh wholesale market of the city.
Following the thin supplies, the rates of majority of vegetables were also increased while massive overcharging also recorded in the absence of the town administration and district management staff who spent last two the busiest days in making arrangements for Ashura mourning processions in the city.
The vendors got full advantage of the absence of the government officials by openly overcharging the consumers. Price cards were also not issued to number of vendors or they hid these cards issued by the market committee officials in order to overcharge the consumers. Those consumers argued about rates and asked about the price cards, the vendors refused to sell their items to them by saying to go somewhere else to see card and shopping.
Likewise previous week, number of vegetables was missing in these markets on wrong price fixation issue. However, just outside these bazaars, missing vegetables and fruits were being sold more than double of the official rates as there was no one to stop them from overcharging the poor public.
This week the price of potato new was increased by Re on per kg, fixed at Rs28 to 33 per kg, potato sugar-free at Rs18 to 20 per kg, and potato stored at Rs10 to 12 per kg, while sugar-free was sold at Rs33 per kg. Onion price was fixed at Rs44 to 48 per kg, while B-grade was sold at Rs48 per kg, and A-grade was sold at Rs60 per kg.
The price of tomato was gained by Rs16 per kg, fixed at Rs60 to 64 per kg, sold at Rs70 to 80 per kg. Garlic local price was fixed at Rs130 to 140 per kg, garlic Chinese gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs155 to 170 per kg, while both sold at Rs150, and 180 per kg, respectively. The price of ginger Chinese was fixed at Rs100 to 110 per kg, while sold at Rs120 per kg. Brinjal price was increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs24 to 26 per kg, but sold at Rs30 per kg. Bitter gourd price was fixed at Rs50 to 60 per kg, while sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of spinach was reduced by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs8 to 10 per kg, sold at Rs15 to 20 per kg. Both Zucchini local and farm was fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg, while sold at Rs50 per kg. Lemon Chinese was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs50 to 60 per kg, sold at Rs70 to 80 per kg. Methi price was declined by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs18 to 20 per kg, sold at Rs30 per kg.
The price of cauliflower was gained by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs18 to 20 per kg, sold at Rs30 to 50 per kg, while cabbage increased by Rs8 per kg, fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs50 per kg. Luffa price was gained by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg but missing, pumpkin price was fixed at Rs32 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg.
Green Chilli local was enhanced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs80 to 85 per kg, green Chilli farm at Rs50 to 55 per kg, while both sold at Rs100 to 120 per kg. Capsicum price was fixed at Rs75 to 80 per kg and sold at Rs160 per kg.
The price of arum was fixed at Rs55 to 60 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs30 to 35 per kg, but missing. Pea price was fixed at Rs140 to 150 per kg, sold at Rs160 per kg, carrot was gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs25 to 36 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg. The price of radish was fixed at Rs8 to 9 per kg, but not sold in makeshift markets, while turnip was fixed at Rs30 to 35 per kg, low grade was sold at Rs40 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs30 to 110 per kg, sold at Rs50 to 130 per kg.
Pomegranate kandhari was fixed at Rs90 to 130 per kg, while B-grade was sold at Rs130 per kg, Pomegranate bedanda was fixed at Rs165 to 175 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg. Guava price was fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs50 to 60 per kg. Water nut price was fixed at Rs40 to 50 per kg, sold at Rs60 to 80 per kg. Sweet potato was fixed at Rs35 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs50 to 60 per kg. Persimmon price was fixed at Rs50 to 60 per kg. The price of grapes Gola was fixed at Rs80 to 90 per kg, grapes Tofi at Rs90 to 125 per kg, and Sundarkhani at Rs180 to 205 per kg, sold at Rs120 to 220 per kg range.
The price of banana A-grade was fixed at Rs40 to 45 per dozen, B-grade at Rs25 to 30 per dozen, while sold at Rs40 to 70 per dozen.
