LAHORE
On 9th of Muharram, people flock to Islampura, the main Zuljinah procession in the day was taken out from the Pando Street. Men, women and children rushed to the venue to participate in this biggest religious gathering, only second to the Ziyarat of main Zuljinah taken out from Mochi gate on the night of 9th of Muharram.
Unlike last year, the Punjab government, the City District Government, Pak Army, Rangers, Police and local big wigs took strict security measures to avert any untoward incident. Young volunteers and the elderly shared this national and religious responsibility with a great spirit of harmony and brotherhood in every residential area and venues of Muharram related activities.
Besides the Zuljinah and other religious congregations in and around the city, the people offered special prayers in the mosques during the Juma prayers for Imam Hussain (RA) and the most blessed martyrs of Karbala and paid rich tributes to the protectors and defenders of Islam. The prayer leaders delivered special speeches to commemorate this great sacrifice and emphasised on taking a lesson from Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and martyrs of Karbala.
In every household and various community centres, the Muslims organised Quran Khawani and organised meals for the poor in the memory of the most blessed Muslims martyred by the enemies of Islam in Karbala on 9th of Muharram. The whole city gave a picture of sobriety, drenched in a mist of gloom and reverence. A rare sense of brotherhood and peace was observed among the residents of Lahore, who displayed perfect harmony and utmost respect for the sake of the martyrs of Karbala.
Imam Hussain (RA) drew an eternal line between right and wrong with his holy blood and of his companions against the tyrants of all the time to come in the burning sands of Karbala.
As the entire world is presenting a befitting tribute to the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in their own particular way, the people of the provincial metropolis took to the streets, Imambargahs, mosques and community centres in every locality to pay tributes to Imam Hussain (RA), his Holy family and blessed companions traditionally. Lahore has always been the greatest hub of Muharram related activities and a glowing example of harmony and collective sense during the sacred month. Despite the fact that the Local Government elections are just around the corner and there has been a great fervour regarding this political exercise in the city, all the election related activities subsided with the Muharram moon sighting. The usual commotion, singing, dancing, late-night sittings at political offices of the LG polls candidates and their supporters, loud music, drum beating and illumination of political offices were immediately stopped in almost every area of the city in the respect of Imam Hussain, his holy family and companions' martyrdom in Karbala.
