LAHORE
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday restrained government authorities from taking coercive measures against private schools for increasing fee whimsically and sought reply by November 5.
Private schools have challenged Punjab Private Educational Institutions and Regulations (amendment) Ordinance 2015.
Asma Jahangir and Advocate Hamid Khan appeared on behalf of the private schools.
The petitioners’ counsels told the court that the schools did not force parents to pay heavy fee; they charged fee with their consent.
The counsels also contended that many sections of the said ordinance were also contrary to the Constitution. The petitioners’ counsel requested the court to set aside the ordinance.
After hearing initial arguments, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza restrained the Punjab government from taking strict action against private schools over the increase of fee and sought reply from it by November 5.
