A candidate contesting local government elections for a general councillor seat from NA 84 was recovered dead from a canal in Garden Town area on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Mian Muhammad Akbar. It was reported that the victim, who had been receiving life threats from unidentified people for the last few days, had gone missing. On Tuesday, some passersby spotted his body in canal near Campus Bridge and informed the police. The victim was badly tortured before being killed, police said, adding the body bore multiple marks of bruises. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death and registered a case against unidentified killers on the complaint of the victim’s uncle Muhammad Aleem.
stabbed to death: A 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death by his brother over a minor issue in Sandal area on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Assad. Police said accused Safdar had an exchange of hot words with one of his brothers over a minor issue. Meanwhile, victim Assad tried to reconcile between his two brothers when Safdar got infuriated and stabbed and wounded him. The injured Assad was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against Safdar.
SUICIDE: Mother of three children committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope in Islampura area on Tuesday.
The woman was identified as Farzana, wife of Nadim of Islampura. On the day of incident, the woman’s husband Nadim came home from his workplace in the morning and found his wife hanging from a rope. Nadim believed that his wife had been murdered and later her body was hanged to paint the murder as suicide. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
ELECTROCUTED: A 21-year-old youth was electrocuted in Mohlanwal area. Wajid was working in a local factory when he received electric shocks. As a result, he died.
MURDERER HANGED: A murderer was hanged to death in Kot Lakhpat Jail. The convict was identified as Idrees who had killed Bholla over a minor issue in 1997. The appeal of the convict for clemency was rejected by the President of Pakistan. He was allowed to meet his families last time before execution. Police handed over the body to the deceased’s family after completing legal formalities.
MAN RESCUED: A man was rescued from Ravi River after he jumped into it to end his life. The man was identified as Sajid of Shahdara Town.
It was reported that the matrimonial relations between Sajid and his wife had become estranged. Upon which, Sajid’s wife left his house and came to the house of her parents. On the day of the incident, Sajid tried to resolve the issue but his wife refused to stay with him.
He got dejected and tried to end his life by jumping off the Ravi Bridge. However, the rescuers timely saved his life and handed over him to the police. Police have registered a case against Sajid.
PROTEST: Family members of a victim, who was murdered by his cousin over a property issue in Toba Tek Singh, staged a protest demonstration outside Punjab Assembly on Tuesday, against the police for not rounding up the murderer. The protesters accused the police concerned of not arresting the murderer Alyas who had killed Rashid over a property issue. The protesters demanded of the Punjab CM look into the matter and direct the police for immediate arrest of the murderers.
ACCIDENTS: A total 632 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which eight lives were lost during these accidents in different districts of Punjab and 535 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. However, some 201 victims sustaining minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.
