LAHORE
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab organiser Ch Muhammad Sarwar has demanded a commission comprising Supreme Court judges to investigate ‘corruption’ in development projects in Punjab.
He said the Sharif Brothers’ central and Punjab governments were setting new records of corruption and failures. He said the PML-N government was day-dreaming to win by-election through rigging but the PTI foiled all such nefarious plans.
He was addressing different public meetings and door-to-door campaign in Garhi Shahu, Allama Iqbal Road, Samanabad and Shama Stop on Monday. MPAs Mian Aslam Iqbal, Dr Nausheen Hamid, candidates Abdul Aleem Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui were with him.
Ch Sarwar said the PML-N leadership had during general election campaign made tall claims of ending loadshedding, price-hike and joblessness using their experience but it failed on all fronts. If people allowed the PML-N to continue using its experience, he said, the country would be devastated. He said the PTI was not sleeping now and would stop the PML-N from its rigging spree.
He asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to fulfill its responsibility by ensuring free and fair by-elections in Lahore and Lodhran. He said the Sharif brothers’ dictatorial decisions were weakening the federation and stressed that the federal government should take all provinces along because step-motherly treatment to any one province could be disastrous for the country.
Mian Aslam Iqbal said the PML-N could see its defeat written on the wall and that was why Ayaz Sadiq was trying to get stay order and run away from the election arena. He said Ayaz Sadiq must face public for its doings and wrong-doings. Abdul Aleem Khan and Shoaib Siddiqui said the PML-N had started pre-poll rigging by offering jobs to NA-122 and PP-147 residents that tantamount to `purchasing’ their votes. They said the PML-N should know that it was dying its political death and it would be defeated in the by-elections.
Democracy Day: Former Punjab Minister and PTI leader Malik Abdul Qayyum has said that holding genuine, fair, free and impartial elections supported by independent judiciary and fearless media are the cornerstone of a democratic setup. In his message on International Day of Democracy 2015, he said that the will of the people was the basis of the authority of the government. The hallmark of successful and stable democracy is the presence of a strong and freely operative civil society that helps to keep government accountable. Women are slightly more than half of our population. Participation of women, on equal terms with men, at all levels of decision making is essential to the achievement of equality and sustainable development.
The PTI leader said the UN set the theme to celebrate this day in 2014 as "Engaging Youth in Democracy" and highlighted the importance of youth for democracy. This was visualised by Imran Khan in 1996 when he founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and categorically announced that he would bring about a democratic change through the youths of Pakistan. He said that the PTI Chairman Imran Khan had called upon the young generation time and again to take control of their destiny and translate their dreams into a better future for all, work together, use their creative thinking, become architect of a new Pakistan that enjoys a dignified place in the comity of nations, he said. Malik Qayyum said today's young citizens are tomorrow's leaders and decision makers. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the future political setup of our beloved country.
