Unhygienic meat trade to be rooted out: CM

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that indiscriminate crackdown against the elements involved in the sale of substandard, unhygienic, dead and Haram meat should be continued throughout the province. He said the heinous trade of unhygienic, diseased, dead and Haram meat would not be tolerated and the elements involved deserved no leniency. He said the collusion between the mafia involved in the sale of dead and Haram meat and adulterated and substandard items would be eliminated and this evil business would be rooted out at any cost.
The chief minister while issuing instructions from London on Thursday, said the institutions concerned should take vigorous action against the sale of Haram, dead and unhygienic meat as well as adulterated items and the elements involved in this evil business should be behind the bars. He said those selling substandard, unhygienic and adulterated food items and Haram meat deserved exemplary and deterrent punishment. He said the institutions concerned should work in a coordinated manner for complete eradication of this heinous trade and the responsibility of provision of hygienic meat and food items to the citizens should be discharged in an efficient manner.
He said that nine task forces had been constituted for anti-adulteration campaign in the province and it was their responsibility to ensure supply of hygienic food items to the citizens and utilise all their energies to bring the elements playing with human lives to justice. He said that curbing the business of poisonous and harmful edible items was the responsibility of task forces and the institutions concerned and they should perform their duty in an efficient manner. He said that supply of substandard and unhygienic food items to the masses was a crime against humanity which could not be tolerated. He directed that a vigorous crackdown should be launched against the sellers as well as the owners of manufacturing units producing substandard and injurious edible items.
