LAHORE
All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Chairman SM Tanveer has said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured of resolving the issues of textile industry and in this connection a meeting will be held in the second week of September with APTMA and other textile industry associations.
SM Tanveer said the spade work for this meeting is under process with the inter-ministerial committee. Earlier, APTMA had represented eight-point proposal to the Federal Textile Board, working group of the Ministry of Commerce and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan. He said the policy action points arising out of these meetings would be put forward to the PM.
SM Tanveer said the APTMA eight-point proposal included withdrawal of electricity surcharges and GIDC on gas, zero rating of all textile exports, strengthening of domestic commerce, export refinance to the entire value chain, refund issues, TUFS, LTFF to spinning industry for growth and focus-market support.
He said APTMA leadership has briefed the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sustainability and growth of the textile industry while travelling along with him to Kazakhstan.
He said the textile industry would be all set to undertake initiatives of investment, exports and employment once the viability of the industry is restored and the way forward is designed and agreed upon by the two sides. The provision of enabling environment will help achieving the prime minister’s vision of industrialisation, he added.
