Pakistani-American Hollywood Actor Faran Tahir, after recently announcing that he will be part of two upcoming American TV series, has now also joined the cast of acclaimed Emmy nominated TV series American Crime for its second season and slated to begin airing in 2016.
In American Crime, Faran Tahir will be playing the role of Rhys Bashir, chairman of the board at a local school. The second season of American Crime is currently filming in Austin, Texas (USA). The show is an American anthology crime drama television series, which airs on ABC Network. The series, created by John Ridley, also stars Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, W. Earl Brown and Richard Cabral.
American Crime addresses the topics such as race, class and gender politics. it follows a racially charged murder and the subsequent trial. The show has won critical acclaim for its writing, unique execution and top notch performances by all the actors. Popular film and TV review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes has given the show a 95% rating based on various reviews submitted to the website. The show has also received nominations at the prestigious Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. Speaking about being part of the series and his character in it, Faran Tahir says “I can’t divulge much about the plot or my character at the moment but American Crime is nominated for nine awards including six Emmys this year. It is probably one of the most acclaimed shows on TV. It has been created by writer/producer John Riley who won the Oscar for ‘12 Years a Slave’. Needless to say I am ecstatic to be on the show.”
Faran Tahir (Born in February 16, 1964) is a Pakistani-American film and television actor, best known for his act as Raza, the leader of a terrorist organisation, “The Ten Rings” in Iron Man (2008). In 1985, he appeared as Bolshintsov in U.C. Berkeley’s production of A Month in the Country. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a BA in Theatre before acquiring a graduate degree from the American Repertory Theatre’s (A.R.T.) Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University.
He made his film debut playing Nathoo in the Disney’s 1994 live-action version of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. He has since appeared in such films as Picture Perfect (1997), Anywhere But Here (1999) and Charlie Wilson’s War (2007). He also played the male lead in the 1999 independent film ABCD. In 2008, Tahir played the role of villain Raza in the marvel comics-based Iron Man. He played Starfleet Captain Richard Robau in the 2009 film star Trek. In 2013, Tahir played President Patel in the science-fiction film Elysium. Tahir has guest-starred on many television series including Alias, The Practice, Family Law, The Agency, NYPD Blue, Lost, 7th Heaven, The West Wing, Walker, Texas Ranger, The D.A., 24, Monk, Justice, Cold Case, Chuck and Warehouse 13. He also co-starred with Robert Beltran and Chase Masterson in the 2005 Sci-Fi Channel original movie Manticore.
