Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayyat Gondal reviewed the arrangements to overcome flood in Nullah Leh during current monsoon rains.
Chairing a meeting of Flood Control Committee, the chief secretary directed that necessary arrangements should be made to respond any emergency and save the lives and property during floods.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner (Rawalpindi) Zahid Saeed, DCO, Sajad Zafar Dall, DG, PDMA ADC (G) Imran Qureshi, Javed Akram, Wasa managing director, and officers of administration and line departments.
The chief secretary reviewing the previous experiences of floods in Nullah Leh and keeping in view the forecasts of metrological department said that all concerned departments should remain alert to undertake rescue operation at the time of emergency and also asked to point out gaps in this regard so that the losses in case of floods should be minimised.
He said that other options to divert Nullah Leh should also be analysed and directed Wasa managing director to prepare a report about an alternative project in this regard so that it could be properly reviewed.
The chief secretary also inquired about the activities of different government departments and other organisations in Rawalpindi as well as Islamabad to monitor the level of rain and subsequently about precautionary measures and rescue works if flood situation emerges. Commissioner (Rawalpindi) Zahid Saeed in a detailed briefing informed that arrangements had been made to establish relief camps, medical centres and provision of eatables.
