Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood has said Rs 8.5 billion has been allocated to construct dangerous buildings of public schools across the province.
Addressing the meeting of steering committee constituted in connection with identification and construction of dilapidated school buildings, the minister said such schools had been identified and their construction would start soon.
The minister said the Punjab government had allocated record 27 per cent budget for education which would help improve its quality.
Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Raja Qamar-ul-Islam, Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Special Secretary Schools Ahmed Ali Kamboh and other officers concerned were present.
Rana Mashhood said the government was providing all out resources for provision of quality education, adding several steps were being taken to provide missing facilities in schools and to enhance enrolment.
He said the construction of dangerous school buildings would start soon and negligence would not be tolerated in this regard. The third party audit of construction would be conducted to maintain transparency, he added.
Secretary Schools told the meeting that as many as 892 schools buildings were completely damaged whereas 2,638 schools were partially affected. Earlier, the education minister chaired a meeting to review steps taken for improvement of quality education through public private partnership.
