Two sisters were killed when a tree fell on a rickshaw on Sundar Das Road due to gusty winds in the Racecourse police limits on Monday.
Police have handed over the bodies to the family after completing legal formalities. They were identified as Rehana, 50, and Shabana, 45, residents of Sheesh Mehal, Data Darbar. They were riding a rickshaw and as they reached near Muslim League House, a tree fell on them. As a result, they received multiple injuries. They were rushed to hospital where the two sisters succumbed to injuries. The rickshaw driver survived the accident. Moving scenes were observed at the victims’ home.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed and two others received injuries when the roof of their house collapsed at Shamnagar, near Noorani mosque. The woman was identified as Mazahira Bibi.
Man kills wife: A man killed his wife over a domestic issue in Factory Area police limits on Monday.
Police have removed the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case. However, the accused is at large. The victim was identified as Shazia, 24, wife of Abdul Mannan. The couple used to scuffle with each other. On the day of the incident, they quarrelled again, after which Abdul Mannan whipped out a weapon and killed his wife. Police after being informed reached the scene and collected evidences.
CTO: Chief Traffic Officer Tayyab Hafeez Cheema has said that he had sent list of 18 roundabouts to Wasa where rainwater accumulates and creates traffic problems.
He said that a special team had been constituted which would maintain the flow of traffic during the monsoon.
inspected: Additional Inspector General of Police Punjab Highway Patrol Mian Javed Islam paid surprise visit to Sasta Ramazan Bazaar Gakhar Mandi, Sasta Ramazan Bazaar GT Road Gujrat and Sasta Ramazan Bazaar Zahoor Elahi Stadium Gujrat on Monday.
He instructed the management of Gakhar bazaar to improve security measures due to sensitive location on GT Road. Mian Javed Islam instructed to set one entry point and one exit point. He instructed to appoint a lady constable in the bazaar. He checked price, quality and standard of commodities.
ACCIDENTS: At least 590 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which 14 lives were lost during these traffic accidents in different districts of Punjab and 536 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant district. Some 208 victims sustaining minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.
beggars captured: The district administration has captured 222 beggars during the first ten days of Ramazan.
The DCO revealed that Special Teams of Social Welfare Department were monitoring all important roads and markets of the city to arrest the beggars. DCO Usman said out of 222 captured beggars, 133 were males and 88 females who had been sent to Edhi and Subhani Welfare Trusts. The DCO instructed raiding teams to trace out beggar’s net work so that a stern action should be taken against professional beggars.
overcharging: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has taken steps against overcharging on essential commodities in the first ten days of Ramazan.
The CDGL has set up Sahulat Centres in Critical Markets of the city where Price Control Magistrates are present to take prompt action on the complaint of overcharging. District Coordination Officer Muhammad Usman said 104 Price Control Magistrates were attentive and alert and had been paying visits to markets to check price.
The DCO revealed that Price Control Magistrates inspected 13,677 shops to check the prices of essential commodities as per government official notifies rates and found 2944 violations of overcharging and of not displaying rate lists in their shops.
