THE Lahore High Court Tuesday sought draft of law made to control private schools and adjourned hearing until June 5 on a petition challenging collection of summer vacation fee at once from the students.
As the proceedings started, the Education Department officials presented the copies of the notification published in local newspapers. The Private Schools Association also filed a petition to become party in the case which was accepted. The court directed the officials concerned to produce the copy of drafted laws on private schools.
On previous hearing, Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi had restrained all private schools from collecting fee of summer vacation at once from the students and directed them to act upon the previous notification issued by the government in this regard. Advocate Sheeba Qaisar had filed the petition submitting that the private schools be barred from collecting summer vacation fee in advance from students.
She said but the schools instead of acting upon the notification were forcing students to pay all fee of summer vacation which was creating problems for the students and parents. The officials of the Education Department were also present there.
The officials told the judge that they did not receive any complaint from the parents or students in this regard. The petitioner requested the court to order the private schools not to collect at once the fee of summer vacation.
dismissed: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of bail earlier granted to Maryam Safdar, an accused of killing two protesters after Yohannabad churches attack incident.
Justice Aliya Neelam dismissed the bail application after hearing arguments of both sides.
Petitioner, Hameed Masih, the complainant of the FIR, submitted that the lower court had granted her bail despite ample proof of her involvement in killing. He said her release on bail hurt the feelings of bereaved families. He said the accused deliberately killed two youths in broader day light in presence of police.
The court had granted bail to Maryam on April 18 against surety bond worth Rs100,000.
Hameed Masih’s FIR in Nishtar Colony police said, a car driven by her had rammed into a crowd of protesters on March 16. Amir and Danish were killed and Khalid Bashir, Halgar, Haroon, Aman, Shamaoon, Abid, Aqeel, Amir, Tanveer, Riaz, Ansar and Haneef were injured.
pet death case: Justice James Joseph of the Lahore High Court Tuesday sought report from police on a petition for registration of an FIR against a veterinary doctor accusing him of deliberately killing a pet cat.
The judge fixed June 17 for next hearing. The judge issued this order while accepting an application for early hearing of the petition.
In her main petition, Dr Atia Masood, an assistant professor at the Punjab University had filed the petition. In her petition she submitted, “I used to take my (male) cat to Dr Awais Anees and pay him Rs6,000 per visit whenever it fell sick. On January 18, 2015, my cat fell sick and I called Dr Awais. He demanded Rs25,000 this time to treat the cat. I paid him Rs10,000 and requested him not to insist on more. Because of this, he got annoyed and administered five injections and a drip to the cat which caused its death. Afterwards, he ran away,” the petitioner stated.
Her counsel, Advocate Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, told the court that Awais had deliberately killed the cat. My client filed an application with Nawab Town police to register a case against Awais.
However, the SHO refused to entertain it, he said. He said that she had then approached the court of a justice of peace.
