FIA, health dept join hands against spurious drugs

FIA and Punjab Health Department have decided to help each other in fight against spurious drugs.
This was agreed in a meeting of Director FIA, Punjab, Lahore Zone, Dr Usman Anwar, with the officials of recently established Provincial Drug Authority held on Wednesday.
Punjab Health Director General Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Health MPA Khawaja Imran Nazir and other health and FIA officials were present.
It was agreed that FIA would facilitate the health department in capturing their proclaimed offenders and resolving other pending key issues. The officials of the health department agreed that they would lodge cases about spurious drugs with the FIA instead of the police.
On the occasion, FIA officials gave a list of medical stores to the health department involved in the sale of spurious drugs.
deportees: Punjab FIA Director Dr Usman Anwar has written a letter to the FIA director general requesting him to take up the matter of alleged negligence by the authorities concerned due to which 39 deportees ran free from the Lahore Airport without going through immigration process.
A few days back, a local airline carrying over 100 passengers including 39 deportees had landed at domestic jet way instead of international one at the airport due to which 39 passengers travelling on emergency passports escaped their immigration process.
Dr Usman Anwar suggested that to avoid mishandling at airports and fixing responsibility of the case, the issue should be taken up at the highest level.
arrested: Ichhra police arrested four people for subjecting three guards of Wapda Hospital to torture on Wednesday.
The hospital’s MS submitted an application against the four accused identified as Sagheer Butt, Qaisar and Qadeer. The hospital admin told the police that the family of patient Sughran Bibi wanted to meet her.
When the guards told them that the time of meeting the patients was over and they could meet their patient, the accused got infuriated and tortured guards Nawaz, Khadim and Afzal.
Police reached the scene and took the accused in custody. No case was registered till filing of the report.
