Punjab government has decided to install trackers at official vehicles to check their thefts and misuse and the Transport Pool of Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD) issued a circular to administrative secretaries and heads of other institutions directing them to submit details of the vehicles being used by the respective departments and institutions, The News has learnt.
Besides the circular, a performa seeking details of vehicles including model, make, registration number, meter-reading, per litre consumption of fuel and department or institution using the vehicle has been issued. They have been directed that the details of vehicles from model 2006 to 2015 should be sent to the Transport Pool (S&GAD) by May 31, 2015.
After having details about the official vehicles, the provincial government would ascertain the funds required for installing the trackers. The S&GAD would submit a summary to the chief minister for allocation of the funds.
According to available data, the 42 provincial departments have around 6,000 vehicles whereas no detail is available about the vehicles being used by district governments or project vehicles.
However, they are also thousands in number. As per rules a BS-17 officer is entitled to 120-litre petrol per month, BS-18 officer 150-litre petrol per month, BS-19 officer 175-litre petrol per month and BS-20 officer 200-litre petrol per month.
The Transport Pool data revealed that 142 vehicles are being used the CM Secretariat, 396 vehicles by S&GAD, 829 vehicles by Agriculture Department, 747 vehicles by Irrigation Department, 490 vehicles by Housing & Physical Planning, 357 vehicles by Forests, Fisheries and Wildlife, 355 vehicles by Livestock & Dairy Development, 305 vehicles by Labour & Human Resource, 302 vehicles by Planning & Development, 294 vehicles by Communication & Works, 227 vehicles by Home Department, 220 vehicles by Health Department, 197 vehicles by Education Department, 145 vehicles by Information Technology, 145 vehicles by Local Government & Community Development, 140 vehicles by Anti Corruption Establishment, 89 vehicles by Excise & Taxation, 71 vehicles by Foods Department, 64 vehicles by Public Prosecution, 57 vehicles by Zakat & Usher, 51 vehicles by Auqaf & Religious Affairs, 55 vehicles by Finance Department, 52 vehicles by TEVTA, 41 vehicles by Board of Revenue, 29 vehicles by Social Welfare, 20 vehicles by Population Welfare, 23 vehicles by Tourism Development Corporation, 23 vehicles by Environment Protection, 20 vehicles by Cooperatives Department, 20 vehicles by Information Technology, 18 vehicles by Law & Parliamentary Affairs, 17 vehicles by Special Education, 14 vehicles by CMIT, 13 vehicles by Sports, 12 vehicles by Literacy, 10 vehicles by Commerce & Investment, 9 vehicles by Management & Professional Development Department, 8 vehicles by Regulation Wing (S&GAD), 7 vehicles by Relief & Crisis Management, four vehicles by Industries and some other departments have 132 vehicles.
