LAHORE
Advocate Hafiz Shahid Nadeem Kahloon on Friday took oath as additional judge of the Lahore High Court. Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik administered oath to the newly-appointed additional judge in a ceremony held at LHC Judges Lounge.
Judges, senior lawyers, representatives of the LHCBA and Pakistan Bar Council and family members of the newly-appointed judge attended the ceremony.
After the oath of Justice Hafiz Shahid Nadeem Kahloon, the number of judges at LHC has become 50.
On November 20, 2014, the LHC had ordered the federal government to appoint Hafiz Shahid Nadeem Kahloon as LHC judge. The judge had approached the court pleading that Judicial Commission recommended his name for the elevation as LHC judge but the parliamentary committee rejected his name without any reason.
He had alleged that the committee’s decision was not made on merit and he was rejected on the sole ground of learning the Holy Quran by heart. Justice Umar Ata Bandial, the then Chief Justice, had proposed his name in Judicial Commission’s meeting held on October 11, 2013.
