LAHORE
Situation in Punjab Assembly got tense on Thursday when a ruling party member lodged severe protest against none other than the speaker, Rana Mohammad Iqbal Khan, while accusing him of bulldozing the rules. Tahir Ahmed Sindhu Advocate, the PML-N MPA elected from Sargodha, got infuriated during the debate over his call attention notice when Home Minister Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada failed to satisfy him.
Sindhu, in his call attention notice, tried to draw the attention of the House towards a gang of robbers active for long in Mauza Ahli Rawana, Kot Momin Police precincts, district Sargodha.
Tahir Sindhu had also uttered some unparliamentarily words against the PA speaker a few months ago when he was not allowed to speak. Responding to the answer regarding the action taken against the gang, the questioner tried to record his statement, but he was asked by the chair to stop arguing over the issue.
On this, the infuriated Sindhu approached the chair and started shouting at him.
“I am staging a walkout. You talk about rules, and I talk about Constitution which is supreme, but you are trying to bulldoze it,” said Tahir Sindhu.
“Let him go, don’t stop him, Mr Mian Tariq,” said the speaker when Mian Tariq Mehmood, another PML-N MPA, tried to stop Tahir Sindhu from staging the walkout.
Tahir Sindhu’s attitude ignited protest among the treasury members, who reprimanded him for misbehaving with the chair. Shuja Khanzada said on the occasion it was really regrettable to see a legislator acting in such way.
Ahmed Ali Malik of PML-N also said one may have grievances but that was totally against the rules to show disrespect to the chair. Sibtain Khan, the PTI MPA, on a point of order, requested the speaker to allow expunging of the remarks, made by Tahir Sindhu.
Shuja Khanzada on the occasion assured Tahir Sindhu that within one week, complete details regarding his question would be disclosed in the House.
Later, Tahir Sindhu apologised to the chair for his remarks. He alleged that DPO Sargodha was not performing his duties well and there was a dire need to take notice to save the people from the clutches of robbers. The speaker accepted his apology and ordered expunging his remarks from the proceedings.
