Roadmap to eliminate child labour finalised: minister

He said the work to eliminate child labour at kilns would be started in next 10 days.

PROVINCIAL Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that Labour Department has given a final shape to the roadmap for eliminating child labour at 5,600 kilns throughout the province.
He said the work to eliminate child labour at kilns would be started in next 10 days.
The minister said that in order to make the project a success, a strategy and comprehensive questionnaire would be evolved with the cooperation of Punjab Information Technology Board and sent to kiln owners through DCOs of all districts. He said that besides collecting detailed particulars about kiln employees, their family and children, 100 percent correct mapping about number of kilns and record of nearest educational institutions would also be compiled.
Presiding over a meeting here Monday, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that in the light of direction of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Labour Department was taking steps under a crash programme for eliminating child labour at kilns. He said after a detailed survey and study at 36 districts of the province, the project would be given a final shape and final report about action plan would be submitted to the chief minister. He said kiln owners would be taken into confidence. He said seminars and workshops would be held at district level for highlighting the importance and utility of this project.
He said the children of kiln labourers would be motivated towards education. He said a meeting would be held after every 15 days. He said final amendments were being made in labour laws for eliminating child labour.
Tevta audit: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will introduce an internal audit system for the first time. According to a press release, Tevta will outsource audit companies.
These views were expressed by Tevta chairman Irfan Qaiser Shaikh while addressing officers on Monday. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Manager (Finance) Abdul Qayyum, Deputy General Manager (Finance) Umer Farooq and other officers were also present.
Irfan said 100pc audit of all activities including Operations, HR, Academics, Service Centres, Projects, Finance, Legal and Administration Department would be conducted by appointed firms. The Tevta Board in its last meeting has already approved the establishment of internal audit department, he added. He said the objective of the audit was to create more transparency, accuracy in financial and other disciplines.
