LAHORE In order to fill vacancies of judges in the Lahore High Court, the chief justice has sent 10 names to the Judicial Commission for further procedure. Presently, 49 judges are working in the court against a constitutionally sanctioned strength of 60. Names of two District and Sessions Judges Sardar Ahmad Naeem and Mushtaq Ahmad Tarar are included among eight from bar forwarded to the JC, sources say. The others include additional advocate general Shahid Mobeen, advocates Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry, Iram Sajjad Gull, Shahid Mahmood Sheikh, Farrukh Gulzar, Sarfraz Dogar, Aslam Javed and Shahid Mahmood Abbasi. Remand extended: District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar Ahmed on Saturday extended three-day physical remand of 22 accused of lynching two Muslims and damaging government propriety after the Yuhanabad twin church blasts. Nishtar Town police produced the accused seeking 20-day physical remand on a plea to investigate them, to which the court extended only three days physical remand directing the police to produce them before court on May 5. The admin judge of Anti-terrorism Courts was in meeting with the Lahore High Court owing to which police produce them before the district and sessions court. The accused included Aslam Sahotra, Illyas, Salamat, Kashif, Chaand Hameed, Fiaz Masih, Anmol Liaquat and others. POs: The Lahore High Court has directed Punjab police to expedite the arrest of proclaimed offenders. Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa issued the direction on Saturday presiding over a meeting attended by judges of Anti Terrorism Courts of Punjab, Additional Home Secretary, Capital City Police Officer Lahore, DIG Operations, all Regional Police Officers of the province, and Prosecutor General Punjab. The meeting was convened to review the performance of courts and police. The judges of the ATCs submitted reports about disposal of high profile cases including attacks on Police Emergency 15 building and two worship places of Ahmadis in Lahore. Justice Bajwa, the monitoring judge of ATCs, directed the judges to hold day-to-day proceedings in high profile cases.
