Minister for timely scholarships for industrial workers’ kids

Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said the Punjab Workers Welfare Board should evolve a foolproof mechanism based on modern software for verification of particulars of applicants and other procedures for ensuring provision of continuous and timely educational scholarships to the children of registered industrial workers and labourers.
District scrutiny committees, workers Welfare Board and labour officers should not show any negligence or laxity in continuing education process of children of labourers, he added.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting held regarding provision of educational scholarships to the children of industrial workers on Wednesday. Secretary, Labour, Ishrat Ali, Secretary, Punjab Workers Welfare Board, Rizwan Sharif, Director Works Mazhar Ali, District Labour Officer, Rawalpindi, Ch Liaqat Ali and other officers concerned were present.
The minister said after announcement of semester results, no delay should be made in the process of verification from Employees Old Age Benefit, Workers Welfare Board and the institutions concerned besides effective coordination be made with colleges and universities present at the panel of the board. He directed new forms had been prepared for making the procedure of scholarships easy and free of delay which would result in ensuring provision of scholarships in time. He said new forms would be helpful in the provision of comprehensive particulars as well as timely scholarships. Secretary, Labour, Ishrat Ali said the Labour Department was taking all out steps for equipping the children of registered industrial workers and labourers with education in prestigious educational institutions. He said prestigious educational institutions of the country were at the panel of Workers Welfare Board where besides ensuring provision of free education with the ratio of children of labourers, regular scholarships were also being given for higher education.
