LAHORE
Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) have failed to deliver free textbooks among the students of public schools in most parts of the province including provincial metropolis despite the start of new academic session on April 1.
The shortage of textbooks of almost all classes is being reported from government schools while at many schools the students are being directed to buy books from the market to “save” them from the academic loss. One such school is Government New Model Girls High School, Dev Smaj Road, where all the science textbooks of 9th Class were that of English medium and those opting for Urdu medium had been directed to buy books from the market.
Meanwhile, according to a handout issued on Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, while taking notice of non-availability of textbooks at the government schools has sought a report from Punjab Education Minister and Secretary Education.
The chief minister ordered free distribution of textbooks for the government schools.
