The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted 10 raids in different parts of the country, which resulted in recovery of 4.025 tons of opium, 17.6 kilograms of heroin and 81.6 kilograms of charas.
As many as 12 drug traffickers, including a Nigerian, were taken into custody and 5 vehicles were impounded in the operations. The total value of the recovered drugs is approximately Rs5,742 million in the international market. Most of the recovered drugs were destined for abroad, the ANF Headquarters spokesman said.
The ANF Quetta carried out a successful intelligence-led operation and seized 4,025 kilograms of opium from Killi Sardar Kamal Khan, Tehsil Bashore, District Pishin. According to details, the drug was stuffed in 131 plastic bags each containing 30-31 kilograms of opium. It was concealed at a site in the mountains. As per preliminary reports, the drug consignment was stored at a cache site for handing it over to a narcotics gang. On receipt of ‘safe signals’, it was expected to be transported to Gwadar for final despatch to a foreign location across the sea.
The ANF Rawalpindi Airport Team conducted an information-based operation at the parking lot of the Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, and recovered six kilograms of heroin from the possession of Muhammad Shakeel, a resident of Chakwal. According to details, the arrested accused intended to take off for Milan (Italy) via Doha by a Qatar Airlines flight — QR-631.
The ANF Rawalpindi Road Check Team intercepted a Suzuki Bolan van near Chak Chakora, Chakwal Road, Jhelum, and recovered 1.2 kilograms of charas. Two men on board, namely Syed Zaheer Abbas and Wishal Ahmed, both residents of Chakwal, were arrested. As per reports, the accused were involved in supply of drugs at local level.
The ANF Rawalpindi arrested a Nigerian national namely Ekene Okoso on suspicion of having gulped heroin-filled capsules. During interrogation, he confessed to having ingested heroin-filled capsules. He was arrested during a raid conducted at Usman Hotel situated in Markaz F-10, Islamabad. As per reports, the accused planned to depart for Cairo via Doha by a Qatar Airlines flight — QR-617 — from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad.
The ANF Lahore Road Check Team during routine checking near Abdul Malik Interchange, intercepted a Suzuki Cultus car and recovered 10 kilograms of heroin concealed in secret cavities of the vehicle. Two drug carriers namely Wajid Khan and Janas Khan, both residents of Peshawar, were arrested during the operation. After initial investigation, a drug recipient namely Ghulam Nabi, was arrested from Sumandari, Faisalabad. The ANF Lahore Road Check Team during routine surveillance at Sakhi Sarwar Road, Dera Ghazi Khan, impounded a car after recovery of 22 kilograms of charas concealed in it. A drug carrier namely Munir Hussain, a resident of Layyah, was taken into custody. As per preliminary information, he was to deliver the drugs to local suppliers in Multan.
The ANF Peshawar seized a Toyota Hiace — E-5663 — near Kohat Bus Stand, Peshawar City. During search of the vehicle, 44.4 kilograms of charas was recovered, which was concealed in improvised cavities. The drug was packed in 37 packets, each containing 1.2 kilograms of charas. A man on board namely Menat Khan, a resident of Kurram Agency, was arrested.
The ANF Peshawar Road Check Team in an operation conducted near Motorway Toll Plaza, Peshawar, searched a passenger Hiace — LRS-4644 — and arrested Said Rasool, a resident of Khyber Agency, after recovery of 1 kilogram of heroin from his possession.
