Teachers protest camp from April 7

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of teachers has announced a protest camp against the government for three consecutive days starting from April 7.
This was unanimously decided in a meeting of JAC presided over by its Chairman Rana Muhammad Arshad here on Friday. Earlier, the JAC had announced a one-day protest camp outside the Punjab Assembly.
JAC members comprising representatives of various associations observed that in light of the government’s indifferent attitude it was decided that members of almost all teacher associations throughout the province would join the protest camp to be held for three days outside the Punjab Assembly starting from April 7.
Furthermore, a resolution was passed condemning the government’s act of engaging teachers in non-academic activities.
The members also criticised the government for lack of interest vis-à-vis problems being faced by schoolteachers.
PU registration: Punjab University has extended the last date for submission forms and fee with fine for registration of MA/MSc and BCom private examinations 2015.
Candidates of MA/MSc Part-I can submit their registration forms Rs 4,500. Similarly, candidates of BCom Part-I can submit their registration forms till March 30, 2015 with fee of Rs 4,250 while the registration forms can be submitted with Rs 4,500 after March 30, 2015. PU new building: The foundation stone of a new building of Punjab University’s Institute of Education and Research (IER) was laid here Friday.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran laid the foundation stone of the new building while Dean Faculty of Education and Research Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter, Dr Rifaqat Ali Akber, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, RO-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, Additional Registrar II Malik Muhammad Zaheer and faculty members were present on the occasion.
Dr Rafaqat Ali Akber gave a detailed briefing on the project and said the new building would consist of 12 state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, 12 faculty offices and one auditorium. He said solar power would also be used to meet electricity needs of the building.
On the occasion, the IER faculty members congratulated Dr Mujahid Kamran on receiving Sitara-e-Imtiaz from Government of Pakistan.
