LAHORE
JAMAAT-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has called a meeting of the steering committee of Tehreek Hurmat-e-Rasool (PBUH) today (Wednesday) at Mansoora to discuss the proposals for gearing up the movement to curb the European media and societies’ campaign for committing blasphemy.
The committee which was formed a fortnight ago comprised of Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafiq, JUI-S Secretary General Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqi, Qari Yaqoob Sheikh, Maulana Yusuf Ahrar, and others.
Earlier, talking to the media, Baloch said the use of wealth in elections was political terrorism and all political parties should join hands to wipe it out. He said if Senate election became controversial like the 2013 general elections, the masses would lose confidence in the ballot, which would be dangerous for the parliamentary system.
Baloch said it was the responsibility of the election commission to hold transparent elections. Therefore, instead of taking the Senate election as a routine, the EC should devise a foolproof formula to ensure transparent election. The election on March 5 would be a test for the assembly members, the federation and also the election commission because some people were roaming about with brief cases stuffed with currency notes.
