Approves reforms in motor vehicles system; economic zone, new city in Salt Range

CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that half population of the country comprises women and protection of their rights is the responsibility of the state. He said the Punjab government is taking solid measures for protecting women’s rights. He said that violence against women is a heinous crime which must be checked.
He said special centres would be set up for immediate assistance of women subjected to violence. He said special centres would prove to be helpful in providing justice to the victim women.
Addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat through a video link, here, Monday, the chief minister approved the first phase of steps regarding reforms in motor vehicles system. The meeting decided to change the payment system of token tax and introducing dealers’ vehicles registration system (DVR System) for registration of new vehicles.
The chief minister said that under dealers’ vehicles registration system, registration and number plate would be issued from dealer. He said a vigilance cell would be set up in Excise and Taxation Department and the programme of introducing reforms in motor vehicles system would bring far-reaching results. He said modern technology would be helpful in improving the system. He said that with the change of token tax system, special stickers would be issued to the vehicles on payment of token tax, the facility of ATM and online would be provided for payment of token tax and the ownership number plate would be issued to the owner of the vehicle. He said that number plate would also be changed on the change of ownership of the vehicle.
He said necessary amendments would be made in the law regarding reforms in motor vehicles system. He directed to constitute a committee for implementation of the steps of first phase of reforms and said that final recommendations should be submitted within 14 days for introducing reforms in the second phase.
