LAHORE
THE Punjab Zakat and Usher Department has launched its website to provide information and guidance to the deserving people besides containing rules and regulations of the department, application forms, and data about 24,000 local Zakat committees.
Addressing the launching ceremony of the website at the office of Administrator Zakat and training workshop for officers on Friday, Provincial Minister for Zakat and Usher Malik Nadeem Kamran said now deserving people would not have to visit the offices and all information about eligibility for scholarship, subsistence allowance, blind fund, marriage grant and other financial assistance as well as application forms could be downloaded.
Malik Nadeem Kamran said the department had initiated a scheme for the permanent rehabilitation of Mustahqeen and as a pilot project in five districts, those receiving training from vocational training institutes would be given a sum of four crore rupees so that they could start their own businesses. He said the complete record of all Mustahqeen, receiving financial assistance under various heads of Zakat, had been computerised to eliminate fake Mustahqeen and irregularities.
He said besides holding various events across the province, print and electronic media campaigns would be launched while brochures and leaflets would also be distributed for promoting public awareness regarding Zakat. He said social media was also being used and department’s Facebook page had also been launched. He said after the success of the project of provision of funds to Mustahqeen through Easypaisa in three districts, the scope of this scheme was being extended to 18 districts.
He urged officers receiving training to perform their responsibilities efficiently to serve and facilitate Mustahqeen as it was also a religious obligation.
