Gang busted for spurious drugs sale

LAHORE
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four accused involved in selling and manufacturing spurious drugs including injections for Hepatitis C patients.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, FIA Punjab Director Dr Usman Anwar said FIA received information that a person, Arshad, was involved in the printing of labels, stickers etc of spurious drugs. He said a team ridded a place in Dina and arrested accused Jameel Anjum who had been getting the printed material from Muhammad Arshad of Jhelum.
During investigations, Jameel Anjum disclosed that Sajjad was manufacturing the drugs at Gohar Centre, Wahdat Road, Lahore. Accused Sajjad along with his workers Muhammad Naeem and Muhammad Asghar, involved in the manufacturing, packing of spurious drugs, was also arrested. He said a case had also been registered with the permission of District Quality Control Board Lahore as was needed under the law.
The FIA director also claimed that a large quantity of printing material pertaining to spurious drugs was recovered from the spot including Injection Peg-INF, Capsule Xolox Capsule Ribasole (all used for Hepatitis C), Injection Fentin (for epilepsy), tablet Aminess (Multivitamin), machinery and stickers used for manufacturing of injection Peg-INF.
A huge quantity of government-owned injections, INF-A, Interferon Alpha-2a, available in hospitals and not for sale, were also recovered from their possession, Usman said adding their samples had been sent to drug testing laboratory to ascertain whether they were spurious or not. He said the matter of the sale of the government-owned hepatitis (C) injections by the accused in the market would also be brought to Punjab government’s notice.
To a question, Usman said each injection of hepatitis was worth Rs 5,000. To another question, he said FIA would hunt all persons involved in distribution of the spurious drugs as teams had also been sent to different districts such as Faisalabad, Peshawar, Gujrat and Rawalpindi.
Praising the raiding team, Usman said all those involved in the heinous crime would be brought to justice.
