LAHORE
PAKISTAN Muslim League-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that general elections will be held in 2020 or later in 2030.
The PML-Q leader appreciated the recent foreign visits of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and lauded Pakistan Army for looking after internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the face of neglect from the civilian government.
He was talking to the press here Tuesday after meeting with Pakistan People’s Party Punjab President Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo at his residence.
Addressing the press after the meeting, the senior politician condemned the Punjab government for shutting down welfare projects initiated under the leadership of former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi. Shujaat Hussain informed the media that PML-Q would remain in touch with other parties for cooperation on important matters of national interest. He praised Army Chief General Raheel Sharif for undertaking successful tours of various countries, including China, USA, and Britain benefiting the national interests of Pakistan. The army has started solving public problems on a priority basis and is taking care of IDPs in a better way than the government, he observed after his meeting with Wattoo.
He said the government was making its politics ‘personal’ by bringing welfare projects undertaken by former CM Pervaiz Elahi to a halt as his name was displayed on plaques placed outside hospitals, schools, and colleges in the province.
About meeting with Manzoor Wattoo, the PML-Q chief said Wattoo had narrated well on law and order, dearness of essential and other daily use items and worst energy crisis in the country.
Responding to questions posed by media persons, Shujaat Hussain said negotiations were in progress with PPP for adopting a common strategy for the upcoming Senate election, as PML-Q got five Senators from Balochistan as well. ‘If the party asked I would contest the election,’ he said. Shujaat said whatever works had been accomplished by the army chief, these were quite appreciable. On another question about US President Obama’s India visit as failure of the Pakistan government, he said this was not the failure of Pakistan but of the government, had President Obama come to Pakistan the public would have welcomed him in a grand manner.
Replying to another question, he said neither the assembly nor the country could run without an effective opposition, the opposition should play active role, he insisted. To a question regarding a visit to North Waziristan, he said Senate’s Defence Committee had reviewed the situation prevailing there; they had also gone to Meeran Shah and Bakka Khel. He said army had achieved great success there and propaganda about the IDPs being neglected by the army was wrong, they were being provided all facilities under the management of the army, the government should take the journalists there so that real circumstances could come before everyone, he said. When asked about elections in 2015, he remarked smilingly that elections now would be held in 2020 or later in 2030.
PPP leader Manzoor Wattoo remarked that the government had failed in every sector; contacts would be continued with PML-Q in other matters also besides the Senate election.
