PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on Saturday which discussed in detail the project of setting up of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre.
President, Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Dr. Saeed Akhtar gave a briefing regarding progress on the project.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that a state-of-the-art Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre of South Asia would be constructed at Knowledge Park Lahore. He said this project would prove to be a milestone in the public health sector and latest treatment facilities would be available to the kidney and liver patients under one roof. He said the 750-bed institute would be constructed at 50 acres of land. The chief minister said the quality medical facilities would be available in this institute of international standards. He said the professional staff would be recruited for this institute which would be provided training abroad. He said the best liver transplant centre of the world would be constructed in the institute. Shahbaz Sharif directed that speedy completion of the project should be ensured and the Punjab government would provide all possible cooperation in this regard.
He said no compromise would be made on the standards of the project. He said the Punjab government was spending crores of rupees on the poor patients’ suffering from liver diseases abroad and after the establishment of the institute, treatment facilities would be available to liver patients at the local level. The chief minister directed the completion of the link roads of the institute at the earliest and said the steering committee, headed by Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, should review the progress of the project regularly.
President Board of Governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute Dr. Saeed Akhtar, while giving a briefing about the progress on the project, added that there would be a best system of guidance and shifting of the patients in the hospital. He said there would be a research lab, conference centre, best security system, library in waiting area and attractive horticulture. He said the capacity of 750-bed hospital could be increased up to 1500 beds. He said all possible steps would be taken for early completion of this project.
Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Parliamentary Secretary Health Khawaja Imran Nazeer, MPA Dr. Nadia Aziz, chief secretary, chairman planning and development, secretaries of health, finance, higher education departments, DCO Lahore, president board of governors of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute Dr. Saeed Akhtar and other members attended the meeting.
Taunsa project: Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting. The chief minister, while expressing strong indignation for not taking necessary steps regarding progress on the Taunsa Hydro Power Project, reprimanded officials concerned during the meeting. He said those who did not take timely steps with regard to this project had neither realised the problems of the people nor their responsibility. He said those showing negligence in this project had no right to remain on their posts.
The chief minister directed that the NESPAK should take immediate steps for furthering this project and all the departments concerned and institutions would assist the NESPAK in this regard. He directed the constitution of a steering committee with regard to solar, hydel and LNG energy projects and added he himself would be the head of the steering committee which would hold meeting every week in which progress on these projects would be discussed.
Chairman planning and development, additional chief secretary energy, Chairman Punjab Power Development Company Arif Saeed, Managing Director NESPAK and officials concerned attended the meeting.
Revenge: MPAs from various districts met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
Talking to the MPAs, Mian Shahbaz Sharif said political, military, religious leadership and the entire nation were united in the war against terrorism. He said we had to win the war of survival and stability of the country at every cost. The chief minister said the goal of development and prosperity of the country could not be achieved without peace. He said the peace was vital for the promotion of socio-economic, trade activities and investment.
Shahbaz Sharif said decisive war against terrorists was being fought. He said like thousands of Pakistanis, terrorists had also killed the innocent children and revenge of their blood would be taken from these brutal beasts.
Those who called on the chief minister included MPA Alam Dad Lalika, Raza Hayat Hiraj, MPA Mian Fida Hussain, Shaukat Ali Lalika, Malik Mazhar Abbas Rana and Khuram Abbas Chattah.
German delegation: A high level delegation of prominent German Group led by its Chief Executive Officer Dr. George Pachta called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday.
According to a handout, cooperation in the technology of generating energy through LNG and energy projects was discussed during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Shahbaz Sharif said the government was taking all possible steps for overcoming the energy crisis. He said the special incentives were being given to investors for making investment in the energy sector. He said that besides traditional sources, the Punjab government was also endeavouring for generating energy through alternative sources and establishing 100 megawatt solar project at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park through its own resources which was at the final stage of completion. The chief minister said this 100 megawatt project was the first solar project in the history of the country which would soon start generating energy.
He said the planning was also being made for generating energy through the LNG and steps were being taken for setting up projects of generating 1000 megawatt energy through the LNG. He said these projects would be furthered speedily. He disclosed that the federal government was working on the project of laying gas pipeline from Karachi which would soon be completed. Shahbaz Sharif said that Germany had a special expertise in the energy sector and we wanted to benefit from German technology.
Head of German delegation Dr. George Pachta said Shahbaz Sharif was a hardworking and active chief minister and his speed of work had greatly impressed us. He expressed the hope that the chief minister Punjab and his team would soon overcome the energy crisis.
The German delegation included Dr. Arand Hermann, German Charge’ d’ Affairs Peter Felton and other officials of German Embassy besides prominent industrialist Aamir H. Sherazi and others. Additional chief secretary energy, Chairman Punjab Power Development Company Ch. Arif Saeed, chief executive officer Quaid-e-Azam solar park and secretary minerals were also present.
