Accused involved in cop murder killed in ‘encounter’

GUJRANWALA: An accused, involved in the murder of a police constable, was killed in an alleged police encounter here near Wapda Town Gujranwala on Wednesday. Accused Asif and his two accomplices were moving on a motorcycle and near Wapda Town a police party tried to stop them but the accused started firing at police party. In retaliation, Asif died on the spot while his accomplices escaped. Accused Asif was involved in 9 cases, including three murder cases. He also gunned down police constable Muhammad Amin on February 27, 2019 in Kalaske, Gujranwala.

AWARENESS WALK HELD: An awareness walk regarding neat and green Gujranwala was held here on Wednesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Rabia Riasat led the walk.

The walk started from health office and culminated at the DC office. A large number of health officials, political and social personalities attended the walk. Addressing the participants, speakers urged upon the citizens to play their role to achieve the aim of neat and clean Gujranwala.

4 GANGSTERS HELD: CIA police Wednesday arrested four members of a fang and recovered cash and stolen goods from them. According to DSP Imran Abbas Chadhar, gangsters Ehsan Ullah, Muhammad Asif and their accomplices were involved in dozens of dacoity and theft incidents. He said police party had also recovered Rs 3.2 million and stolen goods from them.

STRAY DOGS: Citizens are facing problems of excessive strength of stray dogs in their areas and streets. The passers-by find it difficult to pass the areas.

The free roaming and barking of stray dogs have become troublesome for them. They cannot send their children outside the houses for fear of the dogs. Reportedly, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Naila Baqar a few days ago directed the health department to cull the stray dogs, but the relevant officials did not heed to the orders.

There are reports of stray dogs bites by the locals of Nowshera Road, Madina Colony, Sui Gas Road, Satellite Town, Green Valley, DC Road, Jinnah Road, College Road, Pasrur Road and other areas. The locals urged the higher authorities to look into the matter.
