LOCALS attacked a private school at Karim Park, Shafiqabad, on Wednesday following alleged blasphemous wording in a question paper.

 

The infuriated protesters encircled the Farooqi Girls School and made their forced entry into its premises. The enraged mob also set the school furniture and other goods on fire. They chanted slogans against the school administration and also set a car on fire. Heavy contingents of police rushed to the scene and resorted to firing into the air and baton-charge to disperse the protesters.

 

The protesters alleged that the school administration had put blasphemous wording in the question paper given to their children. They demanded the police register a case against the school administration. Shafiqabad police arrested the school owner Asim Farooqi and registered a case against him under Section 295C.

 

shot dead: A 35-year-old hotel manager was shot dead by some unidentified persons in the Naulakha area on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Naveed Butt, a resident of Lakhodair Baghbanpura. He had got a hotel on contractual basis from one Atif in the Naulakha area almost two months back where he used to serve as manager. On the day of the incident, some locals spotted him lying dead with multiple bullet wounds in front of the hotel and informed police. The victim’s brother accused that hotel owner Atif was involved in the murder of his brother. The body has been shifted to morgue. Police have registered a case against Atif, Munir and three others on murder charges.

 

Man, son killed: A man and his three-year-old son were killed by a recklessly driven car in the Kahna area on Wednesday. Police said Irfan along with his wife and three-year-old child Arsalan was on his way back home on a bike after seeing his in-laws when a speeding car hit and injured them. They were taken to a local hospital where Irfan and his son succumbed to their injuries. The car driver escaped leaving his vehicle behind at the scene. Meanwhile, a man expired in a local hospital, shortly after he was hit by a speeding car. The deceased, identified as Abdul Ghafoor, served as a gardener in PHA. In another incident, around four persons suffered injuries in a road accident in the Hunjarwal area. They were on their way in a rickshaw when the accident took place.

 

commits suicide: A 26-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope in the South Cantt area on Wednesday. Police said that Nadim, a resident of Bhatta Chowk, South Cantt, was an addict who committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope over an unknown issue.
