LAHORE

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi of the LHC on Monday issued notice to former PPP MPA Aslam Madhyana on a petition seeking cancellation of his bail in a case of torturing a school teacher

The judge adjourned the hearing for a date to be fixed by LHC registrar’s office. On August 31st, Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa of the Lahore High Court had refused to hear the same appeal by holding that he had already heard the case.

The Punjab government had filed this appeal requesting the court to cancel bail of Madhyana, as he was wanted in 30 other cases, including the teacher torture case. In the petition, the government had said there were ample prove on the record which showed the involvement of the accused in the matter but the subordinate court had granted him bail against the law.

Complainant schoolteacher Nafees Ahmad in the FIR had accused that Madhyana, with his stooges, had attacked him after he had raised an objection against his criminal acts. The Supreme Court has also taken suo motu notice of the incident and sought a report from all the four provincial chief secretaries about the steps taken to protect the lives and dignity of the civil servants. An additional district and sessions judge on July 10 had granted the post-arrest bail to Aslam Madhyana.
