LAHORE

A rift between the Punjab chief secretary and inspector general of police (IGP) has deepened over the issue of transfer of SSP Fiaz Sumbal.

Reportedly, the IGP refused to relive his staff officer SSP Fiaz Sunbal who had been transferred to Balochistan. The IGP wanted Fiaz Sumbal to serve here for the next two months. He requested the chief secretary, Punjab, in writing to stop his transfer as he was carrying out inquiries of some sensitive cases besides handling the security affairs of VIPs and VVIPs. However, the chief secretary wanted to see implementation of the orders in letter and spirit. It is pertinent to mention that eight out of nine police officers had relinquished the charge of their respective offices.
