LAHORE

The fragile power distribution network of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) collapsed on Saturday following the first major downpour of monsoon in the provincial metropolis.

Out of 500 feeders of Lesco, 120 feeders located in the city faced a breakdown due to rain, leaving the masses in the lurch. Staff concerned failed to even pay heeds to thousands of complaints of customers for restoration of power. The centralised helpline of Lesco was practically choked after complaints of power suspension flooded in.

A Lesco official claimed the electricity supply to 90 feeders had been restored within 2-4 hours while work in the remaining areas was underway.
