LAHORE

Judicial Magistrate Malik Shafique Ahmed on Friday granted four-day physical remand of the owner of a private construction company, Khalid Rauf, on the charges of constructing a substandard pedestrian bridge of Ring Road which collapsed just after two years of its construction, causing death of a truck driver.

On Friday, North Cantt Police produced said the accused before a magisterial court and sought his ten-day physical remand to carry out investigation.

The counsel for the accused argued that the pedestrian bridge had collapsed accidentally and his client had not used any substandard material in it. He contended that the bridge collapsed after the truck had collided with it. He implored the court that section 302 of PPC did not apply to this case.

He contended that his client had done a lot of work on the Ring Road which should have been closed if substandard material was used in its construction. He told the court that his client was implicated in forged case that had nothing to do with reality.
