PUNJAB government assured Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Tuesday that no action was being taken to deprive the blind families of their residence who had been living in Katchi Abadi of Masti Gate for decades.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial is hearing a case filed by the blind families who said that they wanted ownership rights of the property measuring one kanal and 15 marlas but Punjab government was going to dispossess them.

The petitioners through their counsel pleaded that almost all provincial governments in past had pledged to give them the ownership rights of the house but all the promises were yet to be fulfilled.

The counsel pointed out that Revenue Department had once offered the petitioners to purchase the property by paying Rs500, 000 per marla, however, later withdrew the offer. He said now the department through a notification put a ban on the sale/purchase of the said property.
