Rangers will launch the next phase of their crackdown against criminals in Karachi to nab terrorists involved in attacks on law enforcement personnel, lawyers and witnesses.
In a statement issued on Monday, the paramilitary force said terrorists, target killers and their facilitators were involved in attacks on police, lawyers and witnesses in Karachi and they would be arrested in the next phase of the operation.
Rangers requested the citizens of Karachi to inform about suspected terrorists and other criminals on their 1101 helpline through SMS or via email at help@pakistanrangerssindh.org.
The operation was launched on the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on September 5, 2013 to rid the city of crime and terrorism. In August this year, the paramilitary force had said the operation would be conducted in a phase-wise manner.
Rangers arrests
The Rangers claimed to have arrested a target killer wanted for the killings of policemen during a raid in Keamari area on Monday.
According to the spokesman for the paramilitary force, acting on prior intelligence, a raid was conducted in the Keamari and Abdul Raheem was arrested after a brief shootout.
He claimed preliminary investigation revealed that he was the worker of a political party and also confessed about murdering Sub-Inspector Sajjad and Abid Shah, and, Assistant Sub-Inspector Naseem Billu in 2005.
The spokesman said the suspect also admitted to killing a Pervez near Sindhi Hotel, during the wave of ethnic violence in the city, on the directions of his party’s high command.
