Sindh Minister for Forest has said a comprehensive policy would be chalked out for the preservation and reforestation of mangrove forests in the coastal areas of Sindh.
In a statement issued on Monday, it said, while presiding over a meeting of the forest department, Gianchand Israni dilated on the importance of mangroves, saying the trees were a priceless gift of nature which protects our coastal areas from soil erosion and was also a source of growth for marine life.
In view of taking action against the timber mafia, the minister called for an effective coordination among law enforcement agencies in a bid to protect ‘endangered’ mangrove trees. “Foreign experts would be sought to reforest mangrove trees all over the province and in the first phase reforestation of mangroves will be monitored in coastal areas of district Thatta,” he said. The statement said Essrani directed the officers to ensure availability in office timings and warned of surprise visits to district offices to inspect their punctuality.
