All hospitals and dispensaries of the city operating under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would remain open on Sunday (today) in view of the latest heat wave gripping the metropolis over the past few days.
Informing the media about the decision taken on Saturday, Health Services Senior Director Dr Salma Kausar said the department had taken the decision in view of more potential heatstroke and other heat-related cases. She said a total of 20 patients have been admitted to various KMC hospitals, including the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, over the past two days. With temperatures still high in the city, particularly during the daytime, Dr Salma said there was a possibility of more such cases which is why the KMC and its employees were going to be available round-the-clock to help the people.
She added that apart from the special measures being taken at KMC hospitals and facilities, 42 separate heatstroke relief centres have been established in the city, all of which would also remain open throughout Sunday.
