Three men, including the former deputy director of Fisherman Cooperative Society (FCS) Sultan Qamar Siddiqui, charged with facilitating and assisting suspects involved in the Safoora carnage were remanded to police custody for 14 days for interrogation.
The three accused, Sultan Qamar Siddiqui, his brother Hussain Umer Siddiqui and Muhammad Naeem Sajid, were produced before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday by the Rangers after the expiration of 90-day preventive custody period.
The court was informed that the suspects had admitted before a joint investigation team about their involvement in the crimes and was requested to grant their physical remand for further interrogation by the police.
The ATC-I headed by Bashir Ahmed Khoso granted the request and sent the suspects to police custody on a 14-day physical remand. Five accused allegedly involved in the Safoora carnage, Saad Aziz, Tahir Hussain Minhas, Asadur Rehman, Azhar Ishrat and Hafiz Nasir are already under detention while 10 more co-accused including Tayyab Masood, Ali-ur-Rehman and Umer are on the run. The men had planned and carried out brutal attack on a bus carrying 47 members of the Ismaili community on May 13, executing at least 45 people.
Saad Aziz has also been charged with the murder of two men, Muhammad Khan and Mustansar Abad, besides injuring six people by shooting at them near the Bahadurabad police station. Saad Aziz and Asadur Rehman have also been charged with murdering a policeman, Arshad. Aziz is also the main attacker in the Debra Lobo attack case who sustained gunshot wounds and also killed Sabeen Mahmud.

Extortionists remanded
The same court granted Rangers’ request of getting 90-day remand of two alleged extortionists, Zakir and Murtaza alias Gudu.
The Rangers’ counsel told the court that the two accused , Zakir and Murtuza, were arrested on Tuesday, September 15, in the remit of Ferozabad police station for their alleged involvement in extortion and targeting and killing innocent citizens. The Rangers requested the court to give the men to their custody for 90 days so they may be interrogated.
‘Terrorist’ jailed
The ATC-X headed by Abdullah Afzal Khan awarded 14-years rigorous imprisonment to Dilawar Abbasi and Muhammad Ibraheem for being in possession of explosive material.
The men had been arrested on October 13, 2014, near Wazir Mansion Railway Station in Machhar Colony area and a case against them was registered by the Sindh Police’s Criminal Investigation Department.

Suspect arrested trying to flee ATC
A suspect was arrested by the police at the anti-terrorism court on Wednesday after he attempted to flee the premises he was being taken for his hearing, Online adds.
The suspect, Khurshid, had been brought to the anti-terrorism court for the hearing of a case filed against him. When he was being escorted toward the court, Khurshid, hit the policeman on the head with his handcuffs and tried to run away. The policeman, Sajawal, fainted but other policemen were able to chase after the suspect and arrest him.
The injured policeman was taken to a hospital for treatment while the suspect was thrown in jail.
