The Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali set up two committees on Wednesday to survey the stock supply of arms and their even usage by the personnel.
He set up the committees while presiding over a meeting to discuss reforms for better utilisation of available resources and making policing more effective.
The prime agenda of the meeting was to discuss good governance practices in the police department and promoting community policing.
On the occasion, the Sindh police chief set up two committees to prepare a report on the existing resources and recommending even usage of arms and other resources.
He also issued directions to prepare a report about the stock supply of arms and ammunition and ensure its distribution and supply according to needs and requirements of the police stations. The meeting observed that it was essential to provide necessary arms and ammunitions, vehicles and manpower to all police stations.
“All efforts must be made to strengthen and to equip every police station with the required manpower and resources” the IGP said. “A police station is the basic unit of the force for maintaining law and order, therefore, adequate resources must be made available for them.”
The availability of prisoners’ vans and ambulances at the district level also came under discussion at the meeting.
Jamali directed the Additional AIGs of Special Branch, Karachi and the Counter-Terrorism Department to mutually write down a working paper on identifying logistics and advanced equipment required by the police personnel.
He also directed the Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Mehar and Zonal DIGs to devise a mechanism for monitoring the performance of police officers and personnel and prepare a monthly report in this regard.
