A teenage couple ended their lives at their school in Patel Para, Soldier Bazaar, on Tuesday morning after their families refused to consent to their union.
Police said a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, both class-X students who were neighbours in Patel Para and studied in the same class at the Gulshan-e-Fatima School, were found shot dead in their classroom with the pistol in the boy’s hand.
Soldier Bazaar SHO Irshad Soomro said the couple had fallen in love two or three years ago.
Their troubles started when their families found out about their affair and did not approve of it.
Before ending their lives, the students wrote separate letters to their parents wherein they had stated that they could not live without each other and as the girl’s parents were marrying her off to somebody else, they had no other choice but to kill themselves. They also apologised to their parents for their move.
The official said the handwriting on both suicide letters matched, suggesting that the boy had written them both.
The boy had also updated his Facebook status wherein he had posted that he and his girl friend would end their lives next day.
The SHO said the couple arrived to the school as planned and during assembly time they went inside the classroom and ended their lives.
After hearing gunshots, other students and teachers rushed to the scene and called the police.
The students and teachers told the police that the couple were good students and always sat together.
The SHO said the police had also gone through the couple’s love letters. In the last one, The boy had told the girl to come to the school with her father’s pistol.
He added that the pistol found in his hand was confirmed to be that of the girl’s father. The boy first shot the girl and then ended his life. The couple’s bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
