The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Friday announced the examination results for the pre-engineering and science general groups, part-II.
Around 45 percent of the students in the former and 44 percent in the latter passed through the annual examinations 2015 and the doors of higher education are now opened for them.

Pre-engineering group
As per gazette, 31,241 students registered of which 30,903 candidates appeared in the exams and 14,037 students cleared all the six papers.
The overall percentage of the students passed was 45.42 and 92 unfair cases were reported during and after the annual exams.
The theory examination was started from April 28 till May 21 whereas practical were conducted until June 25.
As many as 23,238 male candidates were registered of which 22,973 appeared and 9,923 candidates were declared pass in the exams.
The passing percentage was 43.19. Around 766 students passed their exams with A-1 grade, 1,741 candidates got A-grade, 2,476 received B-grade, 3,029 students had C-grade, 1,787 candidates and 124 students cleared their papers with D-grade and E-grade respectively.
Meanwhile, 8,003 female candidates were registered and 7,930 students appeared in the exams of which 4,114 candidates passed their exams.
The passing percentage was 51.88. Around 467 students managed A-1 grade, 1,024 candidates received A-grade, 1,225 students had B-grade, 1,077 candidates got C-grade, 316 students and five candidates passed their exams with D-grade and E-grade respectively.
The gazette shows that 79 educational institutions had 50 percent and above result while 38 colleges had produced less than 50 percent, around 30 percent, result and 29 colleges and higher secondary schools managed less than 30 percent, equal to 20 percent, result. Moreover, 75 colleges and HSS showed less than 20 percent result, including 18 HSS and colleges which had zero percent result.

Science General Group
According to the gazette issued, 2,287 candidates were registered and 2,250 students appeared in the papers of which 987 candidates were declared pass.
The overall passing percentage was 43.87 percent. Only a single unfair case was reported in the science general group.
The written papers were scheduled from April 28 to May 21 whereas practical exams were conducted until June 25.
It shows that 1,200 male students were registered of which 1,178 candidates appeared and 419 managed to pass the exams.
The passing percentage was 35.57 percent. Only one male student got A-1 grade, 49 candidates had A-grade, 83 students received B-grade, 178 candidates managed C-grade and 108 students cleared their papers in D-grade.
On the other hand, 1,087 female candidates were registered and 1,072 students appeared of which 568 candidates cleared their annual exams.
As many as 16 girls got A-1 grade, 74 students passed their papers with A-grade, 207 candidates received B-grade, 221 students had C-grade and 50 candidates managed D-grade.
The gazette further shows that at least 12 educational institutes had produce zero percent result whereas seven colleges had less than 20 percent result. Around 13 colleges or higher secondary school had less than 30 percent, around 20 percent, result whereas 20 HSS and colleges had produced less than 50 percent, around 30 percent, result. Moreover, 27 educational centres produced 50 percent and above results.

Girls bag top positions
Adoos Khalid, daughter of Khalid Shahid, bearing roll number 424926, student of the Government College for Women, clinched overall first position in the Pre-engineering result of the higher secondary school certificate, Part-II of the annual examinations-2015. She bagged 1,000 marks out of a total of 1,100, a 90.91 percentage.
Adoos, who is looking to become an electrical engineer, termed the city's frequent power outages a hurdle in her studies.
“My study timetable remained disturbed throughout the year due to frequent power failures and it was stressful to deal with the situation,” she said.
Urooj Nabi Dar, daughter of Lt Cdr Inam Nabi, roll no 420505 from the Bahria College, secured the second position after bagging 999 marks, 90.82 percentage.
She believes that besides power outages, the unstable security conditions also affect the students. She said teachers at the government-run colleges were not performing their duties as they supposed to do and that was why students had to rely on private tuitions or coaching centres.
Muhammad Hassaan, son of Abad Ahmed Siddiqui, 404231, the Adamjee Government Science College, received 996 marks and 90.55 percentage.
He is looking to take admission in the NED University.
He expressed that the entry test at the NED University helped in judging student’s IQ level, but advised that written test pattern should follow the board’s examination outline rather than adopting the Cambridge system.

Science General
Amna Salam, daughter of, Ahsan Salam, 484694, the Degree Colleges for Women phase-VIII, secured overall first position with 957 marks and 87 percentage. She said private colleges paid lot more attentions on a student as compared to the public sector colleges.
“The student of private institutes would not depend upon coaching centres,” she said.
Aiman Muneer, daughter of Muhammad Muneer, 484695, from the same college, got 933 marks and second position.
She appreciated the BIEK for adopting new examination pattern, but suggested that syllabus should be upgraded as per need of the time.
Sana Habib Airri, daughter of Habib Ullah Airri, 483111, the Government Degree Science/Commerce College, got the third position with 929 marks and 84.45 percentage. She wants to pursue her career in computer science. She lives in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and her father is a crane-operator. She wants to help her family financially.
BIEK Chairman Akhtar Ghori announced cash prizes of Rs50, 000, Rs30,000 and Rs20,000 for the position holders of both the faculty.
Ghori also announced that around 10 employees of different cadre would be sent for professional training in institutes.
He mentioned that a world famous builder, Abdul Malik, had been given job at the BIEK as a physical sports trainer.
