The Sindh education department decided on Saturday that the educational institutions in those areas of the province that were not affected by floods or a rain emergency would reopen from August 3 (tomorrow) after the summer vacation.
A notification to this effect is expected to be issued on Sunday (today).
Earlier, the holidays for government-run and private schools and colleges in the entire province had been extended for 10 days - till August 11 - in view of the expected floods and rain emergency.
The major chains and associations of private schools, especially in Karachi, had announced that they would not obey the government’s 10-day extension and reopen their educational institutions from August 3.
They were of the view that the extension was uncalled for as it would waste precious time of the students’ academic year.
In response, provincial education secretary Dr Fazlullah Pechuho had warned them that all private schools had to follow the government’s decision. But on Saturday, the education department decided to accept the associations’ demand.
