The Sindh local government minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has constituted a committee to assess the loss incurred in the collapse of a five-storey building in the Zehri Mohallah of Kharadar area on Wednesday.
The committee comprises Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Administrator DMC South, officials of the Sindh Building Control Authority and the senior office bearers of the Pakistan People’s Party.
The committee will perform the ‘loss assessment’ of the building and decide on the compensation amount to be paid to the displaced dwellers.
Meanwhile, the local government minister visited the site of the building collapse on Thursday and inspected the debris-cleaning process. Gas and electricity connections of the building had already been severed.
The minister, accompanied by Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, remarked during his visit that timely action by the Sindh Building Control Authority prevented any loss of lives while instructing the authority to make sure the 290 buildings declared dangerous in the city are also vacated within 48 hours.
The News learnt that the people displaced from the dangerous buildings will be provided accommodation in the NJV Government High School and other government buildings as the authorities arrange for alternate residences.
