The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee and the party’s MNAs on Sunday, for the second time, demanded that detained senior party leader, Qamar Mansoor, be immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Alleging that Mansoor had been subjected to serious torture by Rangers personnel, the MQM leaders maintained that not providing medical attention to the party leader was tantamount to suppressing humanity. Mansoor was taken into custody by Rangers personnel in a second raid conducted at MQM headquarters Nine Zero on July 17, two days before Eid-ul-Fitr.
He was arrested along with Rabita Committee in-charge Kaif-ul-Wara; the latter was released the following day on a personal surety. Rangers personnel had initially said that Mansoor was taken into custody for allegedly facilitating hate speeches against peace in Karachi, however, his 90-day detention was acquired over charges of alleged target killings, extortion and other offences.
Fahim Siddiqi attack
In a statement issued fromLondon, party chief Altaf Hussain strongly condemned the assault on prominent journalist Fahim Siddiqui by 'plain-clothed policemen'. He called for an investigation into the incident and demanded exemplary punishment for those behind it.
