Karachi The District and Sessions Court (East) on Tuesday convicted a man accused of raping a minor girl and sentenced him to life in prison. According to the prosecution, Tahir, a seminary student, had raped a six-year-old girl on October 13, 2011, within the remit of Zaman Town police station.

Karachi The District and Sessions Court (East) on Tuesday convicted a man accused of raping a minor girl and sentenced him to life in prison. According to the prosecution, Tahir, a seminary student, had raped a six-year-old girl on October 13, 2011, within the remit of Zaman Town police station. The accused was already under detention and was brought from prison for hearing the verdict. He was immediately sent back to the prison after the announcement of the judgment that awarded him life imprisonment. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Nadeem Ahmed Khan also ordered the convict to pay Rs50,000 as compensation to the victim’s family. In case of default of the compensation amount, the accused would have to face an additional imprisonment of three months.
Gangster sentenced Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) awarded seven years’ imprisonment to an extortionist and a Lyari gang war criminal, Farhan Saleem. The ATC (III) headed by Saleem Raza Baloch in its verdict observed that Farhan Saleem had demanded an amount of Rs1.5 million as extortion from a trader, Muhammad Ali, on May 15, 2013, in the area of Baghdadi police station. The complainant, Muhammad Ali, had agreed to pay Rs50,000 but the police conducted a raid and arrested Farhan Saleem. The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the convict and declared that in case of default, Saleem would have to face an additional jail term of six months.
Three suspects remanded Meanwhile, three men accused of murders, attempted murders and police encounters, Sanwal, Nasir and Hateem were sent on a physical remand to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh Police till July 13. Judicial Magistrate Waseem Ahmed was informed by the CTD police that the three accused were involved in the killings of more than 30 people, besides attempted murders and possession of illegal arms and firing on police officers. It is pertinent to mention that when the three suspects were arrested the other day, the CTD officials had said in a press conference that they had connections with a political-cum-religious party. The court remanded the three accused to the CTD police on physical remand for interrogation till July 13.
