Wanted car thief gunned down

An alleged car thief wanted by the city police in more than 70 cases was shot dead in a shoot out with the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) within the remit of Preedy police station.
ACLC incharge SSP Irfan Ali Bahadur said complaints were being received at his officer about a gang of vehicle thieves active in Saddar area.
He said most of the thefts took place during taraweeh and nearby mosques. Subsequently, the ACLC had placed its personnel outside the designated mosques to keep an eye on any suspicious activities.
On Tuesday night, an ACLC team was present outside a mosque in the Preedy area when they saw three suspects driving a car in a suspicious manner.
They were signalled to stop but on seeing the police, the men opened fire which was retaliated. As a result, one suspect was injured and arrested while his companions escaped.
He was taken to the Civil hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as Jabbar Bhatti alias Doctor alias Master. A pistol and a stolen vehicle were also recovered from his possession.
The deceased was wanted by the police in more than 70 cases of vehicle thefts in North Nazimabad, Sadar, Preedy, Gizri and other police stations.

Elderly man shot dead
An elderly man was shot dead by armed gangsters on Tuesday night on the main photo Lane in Lyari’s Jhat Pat market, within the remit of Kalakot police station.
The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Mohammad Umer by Kalakot SHO Haji Sanaullah. He said the deceased had been sitting outside his house with his nephew Adnan when armed gangsters affiliated with the Uzair Baloch group arrived and opened indiscriminate fire.
The SHO said the gangsters wanted to target Adnan, but he ran inside a narrow lane as soon as he saw the men approaching.
Umer was left sitting and was injured while Adnan fled the scene. He was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
SHO Sanaullah said Adnan was a member of the Baba Ladla group and who was wanted by the police in a number of cases of target killings, also those of men belonging to the rival Uzair Baloch group. He had been arrested in April during a raid but was later released on bail.

Four killed in accidents
Four people including a young boy were killed while a man was injured in two separate accidents on Tuesday.
Thirty-year-old Khalid, and Khurrum, 25, died while Naseem, 35, got injured after a speeding coach hit their motorcycle near Qattar More situated in Orangi Town while they were on their way home.
The coach driver managed to escape after abandoning the vehicle.
An unidentified boy died after being hit by a reckless truck near the Korangi Crossing while he was crossing the road.
Hassan, 30, died after a heavy brick fell on his head while working at an under-construction building in Lyari, within the jurisdiction of the Kalri police station.
