On the Sindh government’s directives, the police on Monday formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the killing of Karachi University assistant professor Dr Waheed-ur-Rehman. The team has been given seven days to submit its report.
Dr Rehman, 42, an assistant professor at KU’s mass communication department and a journalist, was shot dead on April 29 by masked gunmen near his residence in Karachi’s Federal B Area.
Teachers and students at the KU had protested against the murder and had demanded that a JIT be formed to probe the murder of the academician.
Giving in to their demands, police issued a notification announcing the formation of the JIT that will be led by SSP Arab Mehar, who serves as the chief of investigations in District Central, and also includes members from the country’s intelligence agencies.
