The Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) foiled a major smuggling bid and seized 1,993 bottles of foreign liquor from a truck on the Coastal Highway, as per a press release issued on Monday.
The haul, which was said to be worth Rs22 million, was found hidden in the back of a truck that was stopped for checking at a location near Uthal, Balochistan and the driver was taken into custody.
The truck driver had tried to flee when signalled to stop for a check but the team managed to track him within a few kilometres.
The liquor bottles had been craftily concealed under bundles of old newspapers, but a thorough search led to the sizeable recovery.
The operation, the statement added, was conducted on an intelligence tip-off as a special mobile team had been detailed for snap-checking after a source informed PCG officials about the smuggling attempt.
